There are a lot of different things that can be sold throughout town, and plenty of useful items that can be bought in different stores, as well. Keep an eye out for things you need; sometimes it's a lot easier to buy something than it is to craft it outri

In a year where the indie scene was dominated by games that were more about exploring worlds and narratives, The Swapper is one of the games that managed to tell a poignant story and marry it with challenging slg game Missions mechan

The 2013 finalists for the Canadian Videogame Awards span seventeen categories and include 29 games, narrowed down from 75 nominated titles. To qualify titles, at least in part, must be developed in Canada. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag leads the pack this year with an impressive 12 nominations. Last year's show saw Far Cry 3 take him the most awards , including Game of The Y

Anybody who's made it past the first couple days of Don't Starve knows to grab flint , and a lot of it. But in Hamlet, flint doesn't seem to be as readily available. Don't worry, it's not rare, just hidden. There will be quite a few rocks that you can flip scattered around the new game-world, and underneath can be any number of things — one of the most useful being fl

The game isn't for every gamer, but if you are looking to escape reality and visit a pixelated haven, it is hard to look further than Proteus . The nominations are in and the finalists have been officially selected for the 2013 Canadian Videogame Awards. This year, the fifth for the relatively young award ceremony, is quite a bit different. Reboot Communications and EP Media are moving the show this year from Vancouver FanExpo, where it's traditionally been held, to Toronto but recently delayed the production to the fall where the 2013 awards will be announced alongside (but separately from) the 2014 awards as w

Don’t Starve placed players into the shoes of a scientist named Wilson, and tasked them with a single mission: to survive. Unfortunately, mere survival itself is an extremely difficult task in Don’t Starve , with players having to overcome nightmarish creatures and a myriad of challenges. The crafting-focused title gives plenty of ways to kill a player, and savvy users need to look out for Wilson’s health, hunger, and sanity at all ti

The 2014 show will include 2013 and 2014 made games to be awarded separately, based on the nomination year, in one ceremony. Information on 2014 nominations will be released in June while the votes for the 2013 winners must be submitted by April 21st. The award ceremony takes place November 21, 2014 at the Carlu in the heart of downtown Toro

There is a sharp thesis hiding behind the mechanics of the game, instead making Reus about balance rather than authoritative power, where the very people you are providing for, will just as likely destroy your equilibrium. They might even begin a revolt against you, neighboring populations and your massive avat

Initially released as freeware, Spelunky is an indie platformer that tests every inch of a player’s reaction speed. The free-to-play PC version of the title was released in 2009, and impressed gamers with randomly-generated levels and destructible environments. Of course, the real pull for many was the hair-pulling difficulty and permanent death mechan

After a few games and a few deaths, however, the pace of play picks up because experience is at work teaching you what to do. Gather resources like flowers, grass, twigs, rocks, berries, and carrots as quick as possible. Craft flint and twigs into an axe and harvest trees. Plant the pine cones to replenish the tree supply and combine the wood and some rocks into a fire pit, which will eventually be the centerpiece of home base. Spend every second of the first few days putting that base together and then start budgeting time between resource gathering and exploring the wide-open world. While that sounds a lot like work it's actually a rewarding kind of fun, once you get the taste for it.

imageThe main issue many might have with Don't Starve it that you need to make your own goals. There's no "go here do this" to the game, nothing pointing you in the right direction. You get resources by harvesting them from the world, craft them into items, use them to harvest more resources that then get turned into new items to help you live longer. You need to keep on top of health, hunger, and sanity, and there's no instructions on how to do this outside of the obvious "eat food" and "don't get hit". Everything else is trial and error or a quick trip to an FAQ.
